How to Help Misplaced and Injured Animals in Alabama
Unless you have been living under a rock, then you’ve probably already heard about the recent string of tornadoes that have destroyed many areas in America’s Southern states; specifically in Alabama.
Not only has it been called “the worst tornado outbreak in American history,” it has also been coined as the “mini-Katrina for animals” as well because so many animals have been displaced, lost and injured from the natural disaster.
It’s times like these when we as a society must come together and help provide financial assistance to those in need, whether it be veterinarian treatment for injured animals, or finding a loving home for misplaced pets.
If you’re hoping to do your part and donate some money and help the animals that have been affected by the tornado, here are three different corporations that are taking donations for food, shelter, and rehabilitation for misplaced pets in Alabama.
1. Global Animal Foundation
The Global Animal Foundation is currently taking donations for their “U.S. Deep South Tornadoes” campaign, and all the money received will be put towards paying for medical expenses for injured animals, accommodation, food, and to also help reunite pets with their guardians.
The Foundation is essentially a “Red Cross for animals” and its mission is to assist animals who need the resources after being victims of natural and manmade disasters.
2. Humane Society of the United States
The Humane Society of the United States has been on the ground helping animals not only in Alabama, but Mississippi and Missouri as well.
The Society has been setting up temporary shelters for these animals and desperately need your help; so if you donate more than $25 to their Animal Rescue Team you will also be provided with a full HSUS membership and a subscription to their award-winning All Animals Magazine.
3. Have a Heart Rescue and Adoption
This Foundation has been set up specifically for misplaced animals in Birmingham, AL, one of the cities that has been the most affected by the recent tornadoes.
Have a Heart is currently accepting donations and asking for financial assistance to help with veterinarian care for animals as well as food and boarding for misplaced pets.
If you would like more information regarding how to reunite lost pets with their owners, or even if you’re hoping to help out by adopting a pet who no longer has a home, be sure to check out the “Animals Lost & Found from the Tornadoes in Alabama on 4/27/11” group on Facebook as well.
